Dear Prime Minister
As Members of the Australian Parliament, we write to express our concerns regarding the continued imprisonment of Mr Doan Huy Chuong and Mr Nguyen Hoang Quoc Hung who have been incarcerated Since February 2010.
These two labour activists were sentenced to seven and nine years imprisonment, along with Miss Do Thi Minh Hanh, for distributing material in support of workers’ rights at the My Phong Shoe Factory in Tra Vinh Province. We note that Miss Do was unconditionally released on 26 June this year.
While Miss Do's release is most welcomed, we remain extremely concerned for her co-accused, Mr Doan and Mr Nguyen. Their case highlights the plight faced by labour activists in Vietnam. Mr Nguyen Tan Dung

Despite being convicted on national security charges, we understand their activities were simply in support of workers’ rights during an industrial dispute.
Furthermore, we are aware of reports indicating that Mr Doan and Mr Nguyen have been subjected to harsh treatment including periods of solitary confinement.
Given that Vietnam is a member on the United Nations Human Rights Council and therefore has a responsibility to promote and protect human rights internationally, we seek your co-operation in our call for the immediate release of these two labour activists.
Yours sincerely
